Journal of Medical Biomechanics (ISSN:1004-7220, CN:31-1624R）, an open access, bimonthly, peer-reviewed journal with the aim of creating mutual understanding and cooperating among medicine, science, and engineering disciplines in China, was founded in 1986, with its original name of Journal of Biomechanics. The journal is currently sponsored by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and supervised by Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China.
As an academic periodical, JMB seeks to publish articles relating to medical biomechanics and interdisciplinary fields, including basic, applied and clinical research. Areas that are covered include but not limited to mechanobiology, musculoskeletal biomechanics, cardiovascular and respiratory biomechanics, cell and molecular biomechanics, aerospace biomechanics, dental biomechanics, rehabilitation biomechanics, hemarheology, sports biomechanics.
JMB is edited and processed according to the international criteria, and all issues concerned the manuscript should abide by Statement of Human and Animal Right, Informed Consent and Conflict of Interest. JMB publishes on time on the 25th of every even-numbered month, including informative journal titles, full article titles and abstracts and table of contents both in Chinese and English. Since 2008, the journal has launched the online submission and review system, and built up its own peer-reviewer database with over 300 experts all around the world, which has markedly improved the efficiency of the review process. Meanwhile, JMB has opened up a fast publication channel for manuscripts that report internationally-advanced innovative scientific results or has been first published internationally. 80% of the published articles in JMB are supported by grants of the National Natural Science Foundation, as well as grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Public Health, etc.
As a Chinese “Core” journal of science and technology, JMB has been indexed by searching system of Ulrichsweb, Global Health, Scopus, Abstract Journal (AJ), Chemical Abstract (CA), Index Copernicus(IC), Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA), Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience (CAB) Abstracts. Also the journal is indexed by all Chinese top databases, for example, Chinese Journal Full-text Database (CJFD), Chinese Medical Current Contents (CMCC), China Scientific & Technical Papers and Citations (CSTPC). Since 2010, all the articles published in JMB have been indexed in Ei Compendex. In 2012, JMB was selected in “A Guide to the Core Journals of China (2023 edition)” by Peking University Library and “Chinese Core Academic Periodical (extended edition)” by Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (RCCSE), respectively.
To expand the influence of JMB, from 2009 on, readers can download the PDF version of the published articles from the JMB website. In 2013, a newly updated JMB website is launched, with its English version correspondingly. From 2013, for the accepted articles, which have been fully reviewed and approved for publication, their On-line Ahead of Print publication is scheduled in cooperation with the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) immediately after their acceptance. Articles are therefore available as soon as they are ready, rather than having to wait for the next scheduled print issue. They are also given a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), which allows the article to be cited and tracked before it is allocated to an issue. After print publication, the DOI remains valid and can continue to be used to cite and access the article.
The practical and useful articles on biomechanics in many clinical disciplines are becoming less and less in the current literature in recent years, while this type of articles is currently in high demands and such trend will continue dramatically in the near future. Therefore, Journal of Medical Biomechanics has been striving to make efforts to allow scientists, engineers and physicians to publish their study results on clinically oriented biomechanical subjects. As the only journal on medical biomechanics in China, JMB now enjoys a growing reputation for encouraging interdisciplinary discussions, contributing to the advancement of science and medicine, benefiting readers and authors by accelerating the dissemination of research information and providing maximum access to scholarly communication.
